    I found the problem. It wasn't fully Meta Box related, but WordPress.

    If lazy loading of WordPress is enabled (by default since 5.5 or something) i get the jpg (or other variants) loaded instead of webp.

    Anyone using webp images and plugins that optimize images should be aware of this.

    A big aaahhhhhh. I was assuming shortcodes would work everywhere.
    Thanks for this clarification.

    Somehow i already tried to switch between a settings page and custom fields in a custom post type, but i didn't test to try the other options in MB view (only shortcode).

    Thanks for the info.
    It was very close. Maybe in the future it would be cool to be able to show custom fields on Woocommerce locations (like we can choose now to show it on posts, pages, etc.) and "hook it in". A MB Woocommerce add-on 😉
