    Hi Peter,

    Thanks for all of your help with this. I'll post to the WordPress forum. At the same time — and I'm not disputing what you've told me 😀 — this seems an odd way for WordPress to manage capabilities. It obviates their usefulness.

    Hi Peter,

    I'm grateful for your reply. I read the linked documents. I didn't see that I would not be able to attribute a post's author to a custom role. It's possible that I'm misunderstanding though.

    I ran an experiment with the default contributor role, where I added the Business Manager role, for the person to hold two roles. I still could not assign the person as author. In this instance, adding the Business Manager role to a Contributor proved subtractive in permissions, even though the capabilities prescribed the addition of permissions.

    Hi Peter,

    Thanks for your help! I gave this a try. Regrettably, it didn't quite work. I could select the user as author when using the Contributor role directly, but the clone role failed when assigning to a user with the custom role. Also, it's possible that I'll need to change role permissions in the future, so that could leave me stuck.

    Is this able to be converted to a bug? Thanks again.

    I once had something similar occur. Increasing max_input_vars Solved it for me:

    Thanks for your reply. The Extension is already enabled. I tried disabling and re-enabling it to no effect. I'll reach out through your contact form.

    Hi Long,

    Thank you!!! That article you shared solved my problem. I already had post archives disabled, so I went to Settings/Permalinks and hit the Save button.

    Hi Long and Anh,

    Thank you both for your help. Last night, I set up an ID for Anh to do some testing. I logged in with the new ID to have some idea of what Anh would see.

    When I logged in with Anh's ID, I found that custom fields appeared as I expected. I was able to update posts and save changes.

    The issue I reported seems like it's someway tied to by WordPress User ID. Using the temporary ID that I created for Anh, I deleted by own ID. Again using Anh's ID, I created a new ID for myself. I then logged in, deleted Anh's ID, and transferred the minimal content back to me.

    Under my new ID, everything seems to be working. I really have no idea what could have caused this, but the solution I found seemed to be the fastest; without adding more headaches and troubleshooting for you.

    This seems to be resolve. Thanks for your help! I appreciate all your effort.

    I have this same setup working as expected in another project. I've included two screenshots of the settings are in the Meta Box Field Builder.

      You'll see the settings UI for the Field Group looks different in the screenshots.
      I am using version 3.3.8 of the MB Builder and both projects.
      I am using version 5.3.6 of the core plugin in both projects.
      I am running WordPress 5.6 in both projects.

    Your experience is different from mine. Here's what I see. I made a quick video: https://drop.leapworks.io/6GeIw4.

    In the video, you'll see that I can't view any custom fields. I do have another project where I am using Meta Box with Oxygen Builder. In that project, I can see the custom fields as expected.

    As a workaround, I created a post with the editor disabled. That allowed me to populate the custom fields. Then, I enabled the Editor (Supports/Editor) to add text. When I saved the entry with the editor enabled, all the Meta Box custom fields that I populated were made blank.

    Are there other troubleshooting steps that I can take? Would you like me to create another ID for you?

    Hi Long,

    I'm grateful for your help. I did as you instructed, but the result was the same. I am using very few plugins on the site:

    • Oxygen Builder.
    • HappyFiles (for managing media).
    • A Security plugin added by my host.
    • Meta Box.

    Is there something I should try next?
