As my reply on the ticket system. The frontend shortcode does not work in the Oxygen Builder. You can deactivate this plugin and use the shortcode in the WordPress editor to re-check the issue.

Yes, there is a difference when storing data between the field type
image_uploadandsingle_image. The field typeimage_uploadhas the settings'multiple' => truewhich means the value returned is an array.
