For some reason when inserting images using the metabox.io plugin it ignores the URL in the media library and uses a local URL. The WordPress content editor inserts the correct CDN url but i cannot work out why metabox.io is using an incorrect local URL.

Which field type do you use? If you use image_advanced field, then Meta Box only stores the attachment ID, not the URL.
