I am not a coder, so if you show me code, please also explain how to use it.

My question is:

How can I get wordpress to get the publish date from a custom field?

I am porting a site with many articles going back to even 2003 in publish dates.

How can I get wordpress to use a MB custom field value for the published date?

WordPress itself also supports a function to get the published date of a post. Please read more here https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/get_the_date/
