Order list of posts by custom date field

Hi,

I've added a custom date field, and ticked the box to "Show as an admin column". I've also ticked the boxes to make the column sortable, searchable and filterable.

Is there a way to order the custom posts automatically, sorted by this custom date field in the custom post type screen (not when displaying the posts on the front end)?

I know I can click on the column heading to sort by the date, but having the list of posts display in custom date field order (descending) would be really helpful.
