Hi - I've setup a custom field for comments (ID: comments_custom, and yes, with comments selected from the Settings field too), and then associated it with a custom post type (by selecting "Comments" under Supports). Then I added the [short code] associated with "comments_custom" custom fields and pasted it into an html field on the front end. The test post has comments enabled, and is the associated type.

The comments custom field display perfectly, and allows me to submit fields (and gives the "successful submission" banner), HOWEVER, it's NOT displaying the comment anywhere, or more specifically, it's not getting put into the WP new comment flow (whereby I get emailed and asked to approve, mark spam, etc).

What am I missing or doing wrong?

    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hello Sam,

Do you mean you submit a comment with custom fields on the frontend? I think it will not work because it is noted in the documentation

It's important to note that MB Comment Meta works only in the back end. It does not add custom fields for comments in the front end.

    Please read more here https://metabox.io/plugins/mb-comment-meta

Thank you. I now see the notation at the end of the page (https://metabox.io/plugins/mb-comment-meta)

It's important to note that MB Comment Meta works only in the back end. It does not add custom fields for comments in the front end.

That's too bad though. This would be SOOOO useful, and unique. Any plans on adding front end support? Or workaround documentation?

    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hello Sam,

Meta Box custom fields actually do not work on the frontend. It is designed to work on the backend to input the value and output it on the frontend. I will inform the development team to consider supporting this case in future updates.
You can submit a customization service with an extra fee to make it works on the frontend by submitting form here https://metabox.io/contact/.

Thank you, Peter...but just so we're on the same page, MB custom field do work on the front end (eg, front end submission). Just not for the comments category. Works for the categories of posts, users, etc.

    Regrds,
    Sam
