Support › Meta Box Group › Unintended auto-update crashes custom fields and causes fatal error
Hi,
The day before yesterday, I received an incoming Recovery Mode email from a client's site.
Fatal error in Metabox Group.
The customer is unable to update the site due to a number of Metabox filed problems, such as not being able to enter the information in the admin panel, input fields being blank, etc. We were troubled by the reports.
Recently, we had stopped the automatic update of Metabox due to the many problems with it. However, Metabox Extensions is upgraded without my permission.
Nothing is shown in the “auto-update” status display in the plugin list.
Other companies' plugins show “Enable or Disable auto-update” status.
Why is there no status displayed for your plugins?
Why does it install without my permission?
Is there any way to stop this automatic update?
Many of our customers' sites have already been damaged due to unintended updates of Metabox extensions, and we are having a lot of trouble with restoration and complaints.
Please let me know the solution somehow.
This time the site has the following version and the problem occurs
WordPress 6.1.7 On June 24, 2024, WordPress 6.1.7 was released to the public.
Metabox itself 5.6.18 → 2023-03-21 update
Metabox builder 4.9.7 → 2024-11-19 update
Metabox Group 1.4.4 → 2024-11-19 update
Hi,
We are operating with Metabox itself deactivated, and would like to deactivate auto-updates of all related plugins such as Metabox Group and Builder. It would be best if it could be done in code.
If you could tell us how to stop automatic updates of extensions, that would be great!
Hi,
One correction.
Metabox itself is operating with automatic updates stopped.
Hello Yumiko,
Please follow the articles below to disable auto update of plugins and themes on your site with code or with a third-party plugin.

Hi Peter,
Thank you for your support!
The information you have provided is well understood.
We would appreciate it if you could tell us why this situation is happening, rather than how to deal with it.
* Metabox extensions are not allowed to set automatic updates in the first place. This does not allow administrators to set it up freely.
It cannot be set and the current status is not displayed.
* The Metabox extension updates itself even though the auto-update status is not displayed, so it would be best if you could show us how to stop this.
Please see the attached image for the plugin list that does not show the status.

Hi Peter,
I would like to use the standard WordPress functionality of controlling automatic plugin updates.
It is costly for an administrator to go to the trouble of putting in third party management plugins and setting up auto-updates for lots of plugins on many websites.
I think the auto-update feature in the WordPress plugin list is very easy to use....
Hello,
Some Meta Box premium extensions don't have the option to enable/disable auto-update. I'm discussing this feature with the development team and get back to you later.
Thank you.
Hi Peter,
Thank you again for your prompt support!
We appreciate your willingness to consider enabling or disabling it.
We would like to respect your wish to hide the plugin, but we would like more freedom on the administrator's side, so it would be helpful if you could make it configurable like other plugins.
Thank you.
